Precise Polymer Wins SkySong Innovations Startup Challenge

In March of 2023, Cody Weyhrich represented Precise Polymer in the Challenge, winning over 9 other start ups for the $50,000 grand prize seed investment.

SkySong Innovation is a technology transfer and intellectual property management organization that exclusively serves the ASU community. Their main objective is to protect the intellectual property of the faculty, students and staff that develop technology at ASU, in addition to negotiating licensing agreements with commercial partners in order to drive these products into the commercial space.

Each year, SkySong holds the SkySong Innovations Startup Challenge in which 10 startups compete for a $50,000 grand prize seed investment in their companies, or a $25,000 finalist seed investment prize. Each company is evaluated for the development stage of its product, its market space, and business model. After 2 rounds of judging with 6 total judges, Precise Polymer was awarded the grand prize.

Founded by ASU's Tim Long and Cody Weyhrich in partnership with Virginia Tech, Precise Polymer specializes in the advancement of a technology platform for start-to-finish in-house synthesis, 3D printing and material characterization. Drawing inspiration from the Long Group mission of developing impactful chemistries that translate to improved manufacturing, Precise Polymer is aimed to bridge the gap between academic research and implementable manufacturing techniques.

For the pitch, Precise Polymer focused on its specific space in the precise manufacturing of high performance polymers (i.e. polyimides). These materials are used in a wide range of application spaces and primarily serve as coatings or films for intense environments such as aerospace or the James Webb Telescope. The processes developed by Precise Polymer will serve to expand the form factors available for the use of polyimide materials, while providing opportunities for the dematerialization of these products.

Precise Polymer
