Courtney Leo

Courtney received her B.S. in chemistry from UNH in 2018 under the guidance of Erik Berda. In 2024, she received her Ph.D.in chemistry from FSU in under the guidance of Justin Kennemur. The main focus of her Ph.D. research was synthesizing advanced architectures from precision polypentenamers. Her postdoctoral research will focus on designing alkyne-containing polymers for hydrogen scavenging.

Jose Carlos Lugo

Carlos was born in Mexico City and earned his B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. in Chemical Sciences from UNAM, where his research focused on catalysis of organophosphates by metal complexes. He completed his Ph.D. in 2020 and pursued a Marie Curie postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Sheffield (2022-2024) under Prof. Nick Williams, designing and assembling synthetic systems to mimic cellular communication and transmit signals across membranes. His current research focuses on photoresponsive polymers for metal ion capture and release for water softening applications.

Clarissa Westover

Clarissa is a fifth year graduate student in the School for the Engineering of Matter, Transport, and Energy. She graduated from Brigham Young University with a B.S. in Chemical Engineering. Her research delves into the sustainability and circularity of linear polyurethanes and polyurethane foams. Clarissa is currently working on incorporating degradable linkages into polyurethanes to easily break them down into oligomers that are suitable for repolymerization.

Kamyar Karimi Nikoo

Kamyar graduated from Sharif University of Technology (Tehran, Iran) in 2020 with a B.S. in Chemical Engineering. Kamyar joined ASU in August 2021, starting his Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering, advised by Prof. Timothy Long and Prof. Jeffrey Self. His research focuses on designing and rheological characterization of super-soft and tough siloxane-based elastomers with complex structures for additive manufacturing.

Jared Nettles

 

Jared graduated from Arizona State University in 2019 with a B.S. in Chemical Engineering, subsequently earning a M.S. in 2020 through the accelerated 4+1 program. Starting as an undergraduate and continuing through his +1, he spent three fulfilling years at Intel’s Ocotillo campus as a LEAN Engineer in the Lithography department before transferring to Yield Analysis. In January 2022, Jared made his return to ASU, joining the Chemical Engineering Ph.D. program under the guidance of Prof. Timothy Long and Prof. Kailong Jin. His research goals broadly examine crosslinked polyurethane foams under the lens of green chemistry. He aims to uncover innovative decrosslinking methods to transform waste polyurethane foams into valuable materials.

Garvit Nayyar

Garvit completed his bachelors and masters from ASU in Mechanical Engineering and now pursuing his Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering. Garvit's research focuses on additive manufacturing of polyimide precursors to expand application potential of polyimides. Another aspect of his research is to explore water dispersed polyimide precursors as a pathway to 3D printed conductive carbonaceous parts. Outside of research he enjoys gardening, painting, and going for walks.

Margaret Madsen

Margaret graduated from Western Connecticut State University in 2022 with a B.S. in Chemistry. She is currently a fourth year Chemistry PhD student in the School of Molecular Sciences. In the Long group her research focus includes the synthesis of novel surfactants to assess chemical structure effects on physical performance as well as the synthesis of photo-active polyimides for additive manufacturing.

Taylor Vaughan

Taylor is from Ventura, CA, and graduated in 2024 with a B.S. in Biochemistry from California Polytechnic University in San Luis Obispo. During her time there, she conducted organic polymer chemistry research under Dr. Philip Costanzo, contributing to the development of a thermally de-bondable adhesive aimed at facilitating easier product disassembly and promoting a circular economy. Her passion lies in leveraging polymer chemistry to advance sustainability and address the global waste crisis. Currently, in the Long lab, she is working primarily with polyesters, which are unique due to their broad range of applications and depolymerization capabilities.

Noelle graduated from California Polytechnic State University San Luis Obispo in 2023 with a B.S. in Chemistry. During her time at Cal Poly SLO, she conducted research under the guidance of Dr. Philip J. Costanzo that focused on synthesizing of "Click-Chemistry" small molecules to incorporate into stimuli-responsive polymers. She is currently a second year Ph.D. student in the School of Molecular Sciences. In the Long lab, her research focuses on designing hydrogen scavenging polymers and 3D printed depolymerizable form factors.

Victoria Belka

Victoria graduated from the Schreyer Honors College at the Pennsylvania State University with a B.S. in Materials Science and Engineering in 2022 . During her time at Penn State, she researched the rheological behavior of cellulose in ionic liquids in the laboratory of Dr. Ralph Colby. From 2022 to 2024, Victoria worked as a chemist in the graphic arts division of Arkema Sartomer and developed specialty UV-curing acrylate and methacrylate printing inks. Victoria returned to academia in 2024 to pursue a Ph.D. in Chemistry. In the Long lab, her research focuses on the development of high-temperature engineering polymers for advanced applications.

Kelly Nguyen

Kelly received her B.S. and M.S. in Chemical Engineering from Arizona State University, where she worked with Dr. Jeffrey Self on reactive freeze-casting of poly(dimethylsiloxane) to create porous elastic materials. She is now a first-year Chemical Engineering Ph.D. student in the Long Lab. Her research focuses on the relationship between polymer structure and wear properties, as well as the synthesis of polymers using bio-based feedstreams for additive manufacturing.

Hellan Kadukumblayil Moncy

Hellan was born and raised in Kerala, a southern state in India. She graduated from
IISER Kolkata in 2019 with a B.S.-M.S. in Chemical Sciences. Later, she pursued an M.S.
in Chemistry at Rutgers University, where she worked on the electrochemistry of iridium
pincer complexes under the guidance of Prof. Alan Goldman and Prof. Kate Waldie.
Hellan worked as an analytical chemist from 2023 to 2025 before starting her Ph.D. in
Materials Science and Engineering. Her current research focuses on developing 3D-printed photo-curable high molecular weight polymers and advancing polymer latexes for these applications.

Cameron Cheatem

Cameron graduated from Arizona State University in 2025 with a B.S. in Chemistry. As an undergraduate, he trained in instrumentation and spectroscopy, gaining a strong analytical foundation before transitioning into polymer science. He is beginning his Ph.D. studies in the School of Molecular Sciences at Arizona State University. In the Long lab, Cameron’s research focuses on polyester chemistry, with interests in developing sustainable materials and exploring how polymer structure influences performance and application.

Clint completed a double bachelor's degree from ASU in Biochemistry and Pharmacology/Toxicology. During his undergraduate studies, he researched tyrosine ammonium-lyases ability to affect native tyrosine metabolism, as well as the synthesis of small molecule therapeutics. He is currently a first-year Master's student in Chemistry through the School of Molecular Sciences at ASU. In the Long group, his research focuses on the creation and printing of carbonaceous precursor-containing polymers.
